About us

We're Kate and "Papa Bob" McQuade, the owners of The Shoppe.  We're committed to providing good food at good prices in a place that feels like home.  We want everyone to feel welcome at The Shoppe. We try to create a comfortable place to relax and enjoy.

Papa Bob is a chef who began his apprenticeship under Aldo Cura when he was 16.  He has worked as a chef in New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Hibbing, Minnesota before moving to Wisconsin where he opened the restaurant and saloon at the Hotel Boscobel.  He was asked to head up the staff at the Spring Green restaurant and also was the chef at Capitol Hill.  He opened The Shoppe with his wife Kate in 1990.

Kate is a classically trained dancer who began her career with the Philadelphia Grand Opera and ended with the Madison Ballet as a teacher and Ballet Mistress.  Curiousity and a love of food and of Bob found her saying, “Yes! I’d love to learn how to make…..”  She now makes most of the breads and all of the pizza dough at The Shoppe.
